My sister in-law and fellow low carber gave me one of these bars to try. She found them at Walmart and wanted to know what I thought.

Its a scrummy bar is what I thought. It only has about 3-4 carbs in it and tons of protein which is good. The carmel in it tastes like real carmel and has a smooth consistency that you would expect. It reminded me of those Little Debbie Star Crunch snacks. I used to love those things. However, this is going to align with the diet a lot better. Its a great snack and definitely one I will check out again. She tells me that they are not too expensive either at five to a package for six bucks.

Carbs: 3-4

I went to Wal-Mart today to look for this protein bar and when I read the carb count said 34g carbs. How do I calculate carbs to come up with 4g of carb.

Please let me know.

Thank you for all the good hints.

Great Question Elia,

Counting carbs can get confusing with all the different terms and different ways that manufacturers display the carb count. When we do Atkins we are counting is net carbs. Thats the total amount of effective carbs your body will process.

Let me make it simple. Whenever you look at the carb count you can deduct some carbs from that count if other ingredients are listed. Sugar Alchohals and Dietary Fiber all work against the carb count so if you see either of them you can subtract that amount from the total carbs. So for instance:

Carbs - 20
Sugar alcohol - 10
Dietary Fiber- 5
If we start with 20 and minus the rest we end up with Net Carbs = 5

The net carbs are really the only ones that effect your diet.

Hope this helps.

Also, when looking at this brand, make sure it says Carb Conscious. They have some protein bars that are not low carb at all. This carmel one is really the lowest there is.
