While traveling the southern states it was only a matter of time before my wife and I found ourselves in that one of a kind eatery, Cracker Barrell. These places are known for their hearty homestyle cooking with cute cozy interiors, not to mention the attached general store that sells all sorts of old timey trinkets. Fun Fact, Cracker Barrell is the number one restraurant of choice for travelers between the ages of 50-70. It even beats out Dennys.

This is the place where corn bread, biscuits and gravy, and other fried foods are usually going to win on the menu. So you can guess that I was pretty surprised when I saw that they had a special section dedicated to low carb eats at breakfast. Granted breakfast is probably the easiest meal of the day to do low carb, its still nice to see a place take it into consideration.

I got the Double Meat Breakfast cause I like meat and eggs. Seemed like a safe choice. It is a lot of food and I was very satisfied.

I feel like I should mention a bit of a controversy on the internet about this low carb breakfast. Cracker Barrel advertises that these meals come with "Low Carb Bread". My waitress even presented it to me that way. Many people have done the research and have found that its really not that low carb or anything different from their wheat bread. That being said, if you you are early on in your low carb life, go without. It's not gonna hurt you to leave it on the side. It's extra carbs that could be used somewhere else in the day. Have some fresh fruit instead. And if you do have a slice, well it's certainly a better choice than a biscuit.

Also, the bacon here is awesome. Really awesome. Like, get more.

I agree the bacon is primo. If you get sausage, I recommend the turkey sausage. The regular is kind of weirdly over spiced. Ham is nothing special, but they do have a choice of regular ham or sweet ham. The bread is so tempting, i tell them not to bring it, or quick, give it to my hubby. They call it whole wheat, low carb bread, but its not.

They have a lunch and dinner low carb menu too, I eat there all the time when we are on the road! It is SO GOOD. You can check out their low carb menu at: http://www.crackerbarrel.com/PDFs/LunchDinner.pdf (scroll down to page 5). I eat the smothered chicken tenderloins (grilled chicken with cheddar cheese and bacon on top) with a double order of green beans. SO GOOD! I probably have lots of pictures of meals I've eaten there, I'll try to send some your way in case you can use them! My husband always eats the double meat breakfast at dinner time. He asks if he can sub a side salad for the toast and they usually let him do it for an extra $1 or something.

You can buy the bacon in packages and take it home too!

I'm new to your blog and I am diggin' it! We had dinner at Cracker Barrel last night and as usual I go for the dinner menu. I'm not sure when it happened, but they've dropped the Low Carb section of the menu, but they still have the "Double Meat Breakfast". The problem is even though I asked them to see if they could replicate the low carb version of this item they insisted on delivering a bowl or gravy and a bowl of grits! Oh well. The eggs and bacon were wonderful but next time I skip the sausage, which didn't appeal to me, and have them double-up on the bacon.

Agreed, I will probably double up on the bacon myself next time.

This is out of date. They no longer have these options and would over charge if carb items left off double meat breakfast. Our needs weren’t met and we were told we had to talk to corporate
