I eat a lot of protein bars. To be honest, more often than not, they are what I have for a quick and easy breakfast. I usually try to stick to bars that are less than 4 carbs and nothing more. Carbs add up fast in this life and wasting them on a sugary bar is a bad idea. That’s why I was looking forward to a new bar that was low in carbs and would be a great fit at breakfast time. I am specifically talking about Quest Cereal Bars. Quest Waffle Flavored Cereal Protein Bar is a great change from what I normally have and actually tastes like a cereal bar should. It has a great crunch to it and the taste is nice and maple flavored with a great sweetness. These fit perfectly for a breakfast bar. The carbs are low which is great too. These almost tasty like what a cereal breakfast bar would taste like buy a major brand like Kellogg's. I would have this again for sure.
More recently I have had the ability to try several snack cakes that are working to get into the Snack cake market for low carbers. I think it's really exciting to see what new products come out of this and it's great to see what items will fill that void of desserts and cakes that so many of us have. The newest one to hit shelves is called Smartcakes. I tried their Cinnamon Smartcake and if the rest of their products are anything like this one, then I am absolutely pumped to try them.
This Cinnamon cake is hands down, without a doubt the best tasting snack cake I have tried! So moist and fresh with a great texture and wonderful sweetness that doesn’t taste artificial. The cinnamon is fantastic too. It's just like a cinnamon muffin. Wow. I am a fan. This thing tastes so good it treads on dessert I think, but still I'm not opposed to enjoying it for breakfast.
The most amazing part about it is that it is actually zero carbs. That’s right, you heard me. No carbs. After you subtract the fiber and the sugar alcohol it zeros out. Can this be real? I have no idea! But I will for sure be ordering some of these right away!
There another beef stick to add to the list. The Vermont Smoke & Cure Cracked Pepper Beef and Pork Stick is juicy and the texture is good. But for some reason when it says cracked pepper on it I expected a bit more of a bold taste. This didn’t have that. Pretty forgettable in the flavor department.
If you read this blog you know that I am constantly on the look-out for Low Carb products that meet my lifestyle and help to make my life a bit easier. Saving time on cooking, and having a variety of snacks available help to make the diet a bit easier on myself so I don’t get bored with the same old things. So when I discovered that there was a new subscription service that sends you products that fit within the low carb lifestyle I was on board.
Keto Krate is a new subscription box that is available in the long list of to your door monthly box subscriptions that is specifically geared towards the Keto and low carb lifestyle. They guarantee that all items in the box will be less than 5 carbs per serving and that the value of the collected items products will always exceed the cost of the box.
My desire to find some new snacks that were low carb is really what made me decide to give it a try, that plus who doesn’t like a surprise now and then.
My review's for the individual products in this box will be cut short here. I will be doing more in-depth reviews on each product and share links to those reviews here as I complete them. Right now I just want to talk about this month's box and what I got as a whole.
So every box has a nice little welcome card that explains all the items you received and then usually has some promo codes in case you need more of something. I have already found myself using this for a snack I receive in my last box that no one carried in the stores near me. I had to have some more so having a little discount was great to give me the incentive to get some shipped to me.
Lots of great items this month and a couple that I was pretty excited to try out. So what was in my box this month?
As usually with Keto Krate you can guarantee there is at least one or two types of meat snacks in the box. That was true this month as well. A new beef stick to try and a beef jerky that really looks interesting. I love the idea of a chili Lime jerky. Sounds yummy. They included some Roasted Kale which is fun and I was kind of surprised that this is the first time we have seen that in the box. Looking forward to trying some especially with flavoring. A new type of low carb cake snack always intrigues me so that’s exciting. A new protein bar that is closer to that of a cereal bar sounds like a nice change to what I usually have too. They included some BBQ flavored seeds. At first glance I cant tell what kind of seeds they are. Pumpkin maybe. And lastly a cereal mix. The cereal mix is great! I am always looking for a new hot cereal or breakfast option so I can't wait to try this.
Overall this is a great box. A nice collection of snacks that will definitely help to sustain over the next month or so. Very impressed with this month's selection with lots of new items that and I can't wait to try. Great job this month Keto Crate.

The Gilded Nut company is for people that want strong flavor on their nuts. They have bold taste and don’t skimp on the seasoning and in my opinion it pays off. I tried one of their newer flavors this month with their Habanero Heat pistachios and they were super yummy. The flavor is really tasty and they do have heat. It's not going to stick with you forever, but it's enough kick that it made my nose run for a while. Not overpowering where it just hurt though. That would bug me. No this was just the right level of heat to be hot and kick without hurting the flavor experience.
I feel like I am becoming an expert of low carb chocolates. I have tried a lot of different kinds. Some have weird tastes and it all seems to come down to the type of sweetener they use. The
Coco Polo Chocolate Bar w/Hazelnuts Bar is super yummy with great flavor that isn't trumped by any artificial tastes. It has a smooth taste that is especially creamy and milky. I really liked this. I ate the whole thing in one sitting which normally I don’t do. I usually like to just savor and have the bar over time. But this one is really good. Especially with the Hazelnut taste.
This bar was really soft and squishy. Decent peanut butter taste but the Raw Rev Glow Creamy Peanut Butter & Sea Salt Protein Bar didn’t really leave me with anything more than that. It filled me up a little but in terms of taste I want blown away.
Brooklyn Biltong Season Dried Beef is a pretty simple review to have to write. The beef is dried and is really lightly season. It's decent and super low carb as most other jerky's have too much added sugar. But no much about this would make me seek this out again.
The Amarok Spirit Fire Beef Sticks are decent. They aren't near as greasy as a Slim Jim. Not near as spicy as the name leads you to believe either. Decent, but these beef sticks really fit in the category of gas station quality. Not anything to rave about at all.
I came home the other day from a long day of work and was feeling a little bit stressed out from the pressures if my job. It was my turn to cook and I needed something to relax and sip on while I was working in the kitchen. I decided to grab the Zenify Zero can in my fridge. Primarily because it says "Stress Relief" in large bold letters .
At first I expected this to be more of an energy drink, but it's really the opposite. It is carbonated but has some ingredients which help to calm your body down. Closer to that of a tea. Its taste was actually pretty good and had a nice berry flavor. I would relate it to that’s of like a lightly sweetened carbonated fruit juice. Which I really did enjoy. I am not sure if it actually worked to reduce the stress, or if it was more of a placebo, but it was the right thing for the right time and I enjoyed it. I felt like my blood pressure was dropping and my mind was settling again. Could have also been related to being at home in a quiet house.
I probably won't intentionally seek out a drink like this down the road as I usually am fine with water and coffee. But, who knows, If I see this in a gas station on a hard day I may grab one again.
