Burger King Low Carb Whopper Review - Its A Burger Salad

Dearest Burger King

I humbly implore you to help your people. We are in a war with a Carb Dragon on the hillside. It is ravaging our townspeople and burning their homes. We ask you to send a lettuce wrapped beef patty to fend off this creature. Please, we can not fight alone.

-A Simple Child

Someone asked me if I ever eat at Burger King. I used to a lot. Truth is if you want a traditional burger between two pieces of bread they do a pretty good job. The Whopper is a decent burger and you get pretty good bang for your buck there. Now days however on a low carb diet I don't really visit there too often. There's a big reason for that really. Burger King uses shredded lettuce.

The other day I stopped by because my wife found a couple "Buy One Whopper Get one Free" coupons. Well I love a deal so I decided to pick up some food. To be honest two whoppers and a drink for $6 bucks is not too bad. Seems like a lot of food actually. I was excited. And when I rolled through the drive of Burger King and ordered I had no trouble asking for the burgers "Low Carb" style. They made the note on the order screen and I drove up. All of this seemed simple enough. I was halfway to a great fast food low carb experience.

The problem arrived when I got back with my food. I open up the bag to see my meal. Essentially its two whoppers on a plate and no bun. Its a burger salad. I guess maybe I've been a little spoiled eating at some other places that know how to wrap a burger or at least give me some bigger lettuce leaves so I can pick it up. Don't get me wrong, it tasted fine. I knife and forked it the whole way and it tasted just like a lettuce wrapped burger would. I really can't complain that much, but there is just something about being able to eat a burger with your hands that completes the fast food experience. When you have to use a knife and fork and then eat it like a salad I almost feel like I am missing out on something. It seems like BK wants to accommodate me but if I had to guess I would gather that the issue comes from the fact that they use pre-ripped lettuce on their burgers. Since their lettuce is torn already they just cant wrap it. But why not keep a couple heads of lettuce around. I cant be the only one wanting to have it lettuce wrapped right?
Picture
Again, what I ate wasn't bad, it just felt incomplete. It was a meal that reminded me that I don't eat like most people and I dont want to be reminded of the difference in my diet. If that's the experience I walk away with, then I just prefer to go back to a place that understands burgers should be eaten with your hands regardless of your eating requirements. After all shouldnt you be able to "have it your way"

In regards to carb count, I cant be entirely sure. It cant be too much The only real thing is the ketchup the put on the burger. Tomatoes have fiber so Im guess in it probably looks like this for one whopper salad....

Carbs - 5
Fiber - 1
Net Carbs - 4

If you are hungrier than usual, take your business to Burger King since when buying one dish

Of course it felt incomplete... the bag in the background shows you how to make a burger and there are a couple of obvious pieces missing in yours. :) OK... all joking aside, I lookied up this review because I was craving a whopper, but have tried to shun the evils of the processed carb bun. I agree with you. From the picture it looks like a half-hearted job at trying to create a whopper salad. I ended up with the whopper and the knowledge that I did abs and lower body this morning will be running tonight.

P.S. I always made fun of people who ate their burgers with a fork... I'd feel wrong too.

I admit that a burger is more complete with a bun, but some places do lettuce wrapped or bunless with a bite more class than here. Still I suppose a bed of lettuce is better than nothing. :)

When I'm dieting, I find that in order to maintain my sanity, I have to allow myself a "cheat meal" once a week. I usually enjoy my cheat meal on the weekend, and I basically have whatever I want with some degree of moderation in portion size so that i don't undo all the progress i made all week.

My cheat meal, for example might be one or two pieces of fried chicken with a small portion of French fries. I still eat cooked veggies or a salad even with my cheat meal. Then I always have dessert with my cheat meal. This may include a small DQ vanilla cone and 2 individually wrapped pieces of Dove dark chocolates.

This weekend I am going to have a burger (a very big fat one on a mulitgrain roll) with a handfull of baked potato chips, then a small sliver of cheesecake for dessert.

Looking forward to my cheat meal keeps me patient and steadfast on my diet the rest of the week. (I follow a low-fat, low-carb 1500 calorie regimen.) I also walk at least one or two miles a day around my community.

Having lost 138 pounds in 2 years, I'd say it's working! lol

For me, it's about hunger and not about being able to hold my food in my hands. Carl's Jr. has been doing the lettuce wrap longer than any of the other fast food joints that I have been to. The lettuce wrap is messy so I am not at all feeling the need to hold my burger a certain way. I am only concerned with getting it in my mouth without some of it ending up on the front of my blouse before I finish the meal. I have learned to leave my psychological needs at the door when entering any restaurant.

This is completely ridiculous, why can't they wrap it nicely like at In-n-Out or Carl's? Come on bk, get with the program!

Gluten-free Bamberger buns.....as huge as Burger King is, why is it that you can't provide the buns nessisary for celiac clients eat burgers they too love.....I have ate many and still would.....how messy do you think it is to eat a lettuce wrap dripping everywhere ......so, Red Robin actually has a favorable bun, I can have any burger they make.....how hard is it to buy them.... A research team can find buns.....if someone wants lettuce wrap, that's cool....please let me be able to buy BK on GF buns...thank you

I got one today too, but I was disappointed because the guy at the register made it seem better than it actually was and there was not sauce or light amount of mayo...it tasted really dry. They really need to invest in lettuce wraps, cuz now I'll be going to Carl's Jr. when on the go for my low card lettuce wrapped sandwich until Burger King figures it out. I mean they are supposed to be the king of burgers, so they really need to step it up.

My gosh! It's Burger King! What whiners!! You got a burger patty. You got lettuce and tomatoes. Use your frigging fork and enjoy it. Look at a picture of a bun for the 'experience'...

I thought it was absolutely terrible. I have celiacs disease so eat wraps often and this is the worst I’ve had by far. In N Out is the best.
