Atkins Review: Tex-Mex Scramble

If you haven't discovered it by now, you should know that Atkins released a new line of frozen meals this past year. Prior to that there wasn't a lot of meals in their line of food other than bars and treats. Actually having frozen dinners and breakfasts to choose from was really exciting for people on the go looking for something quick, easy, and low carb that fit in their diet. There are a lot of choices to choose from too and they seem to hit the mark pretty well.

One of the first meal I tried was the Atkins Tex-Mex Scramble. Scrambled eggs, chorizo, american cheese, with tomatoes and peppers. I have to say, for a quick breakfast item, I was pretty impressed. It's a nice little bowl of eggs and the sausage packs a good amount of flavor. I was worried that the meal was going to taste weird with it being frozen eggs, but it wasn't bad at all, and for a breakfast meal it pretty filling. The portion is right and I felt very satisfied after. The peppers give it good flavor and add some zest to it so you can eat eggs again on your diet if you haven't all ready overdose on them in your induction phase.

I guess its hard to mess up eggs, and luckily I don't think they do here. I liked it. Its probably going to be a nice item to have in our house for those early mornings when you just don't have the time or energy to make anything diet friendly.

I love this one!! I actually scramble up a jumbo egg on the stove while it's cooking in the microwave. Mixing in that extra scrambled egg really makes for a full meal. And it only adds a carb or so.

This is seriously one of their better meals. I wish they were bigger! So much flavor. I'll have to learn how to make this one myself to save money.

I'm not on any Atkins diet but found this at the grocery a few months ago and have fallen in love with it. Easy to prepare and one of the tastiest frozen meals I've found I will have to try scrambling up an extra egg for it even though it's quite enough food to start. The chorizo and peppers give it just the right amount of spiciness, even for breakfast.

Unfortunately, in the months since I've tried half a dozen other Atkins frozen meals and they have uniformly been miserable.

Today I suffered through a "Crustless Chicken Pot Pie" (apparently because it was mixed in with the Tex-Mex as the boxes are the same size and I grabbed it in error). Terrible! Looked and tasted nothing like a pot pie, even without the crust. Loaded with worthless veggies such as broccoli and cauliflower with two (yes, countable) slivers of carrot and no peas to be found. What little chicken mini-chunks were in there were way overcooked and tough.

I give this food line little chance of success for other than fanatics of the Atkins diet. Too bad, as that Tex-Mex is really fabulous.
