Blue cheese, eggs, bacon, tomatoes. Simple and wasn't too expensive.
I will probably head back here too cause they have lettuce wrapped burgers on the menu. Yes, printed on the menu.

I am a big fan of Alehouses. Usually that means the food is hearty, good drinks, and they have good hotwings on the menu. When I came across the Pyramid Alehouse in Downtown Sacremento I had to stop in for a bite. Again, I was recuperating from the holidays so a salad seemed like a great idea. They have several on the menu that seemed good, but I went for the classic wedge salad.

![]() Well it's a another city. That means another chance to explore some great places to eat. Downtown Sacramento has a lot to offer too. However, after the holidays my wife and I were both craving a good salad. On top of that, the weather here is a little brisk being in the 30's so staying warm seemed fit. Therefore, when we stopped in the Roma Cafe and saw that they had a Soup and Salad deal I went for it. I got myself the Cobb Salad with a cup of their homemade Tuscan Chicken Soup, I think that's what they called it anyway. It was a nice little lunch and very cozy. The soup was a little mediocre so I would have maybe tried a different kind next go. This place has a ton of salads on their menu though and they make everything fresh. So seems like a nice little spot. They have 4 stars on yelp, so others seem to think so too. While walking downtown near our hotel my wife came across a nice little find. Downtown Houston is host to a great little get together of food vendors every Tuesday and Wed. Most of the time usual food fairs are filled with unhealthy deep friend foods, but this was actually different. All the venders were locals trying to drum up some business for themselves and keep things fresh and easy. I spotted several tents doing yummy fresh salads, tasty wraps, and even just some good old fashion grilled chicken. There was some fresh goat cheese for sale, spices, and yummy fresh juice mixes. It was pretty cool.
a lot of cities do this now and I thing its great. It's always fun to support local eateries and this is a great way to do it. My wife and I were craving the taste of our childhood the other day and so we decided that we should do Sloppy Joe's. Whenever we make Sloppy Joe's we use low carb tortilla now in place of buns. Usually we find a powdered mix at the grocery store but while we were out running errands at Wal-mart we spotted a sale on Manwich Sloppy Joe mix. Curiosity got the best of us.
The mix isn't too heavy on carbs if you are monitoring how much of the sloppy Joe Mix you are eating. But the big question is how does it taste? Well, its not great. It has a very vinegary taste for me. It's edible, but I'm used to my Moms sloppy joe's which have much more of a sweet taste to them. Because of that, I ended adding a bit of Splenda Brown sugar to sweeten the mix. One spoonful did the job and the stuff was great. Regardless, if you are looking for something to fill the need of that childhood craving for lunchroom food, this works. Also, it's incredibly easy. Took about 10 minutes to cook the beef and add the sauce. Its a time saver and a great way to switch things up if you want something other than chicken breasts and eggs. ![]() Just a short walk from our hotel is a little silver car diner called the District 7 Grill. My wife found them online and it wasn't to far from our stay so we thought we would check them out for breakfast. I of course got an omelette. It was filled with some high quality bacon, ham, and sausage so it had a ton of flavor. Anyone that reads this blog knows I eat a lot of omelets so I feel I can tell when one stands out pretty well. This one did. Lots of flavor. My wife got something called the Meat Breadfast which was like a breakfast sandwich. You can't eat that because of the carbs so just ignore that I am even bringing it up. She liked it though. They serve potatoes with the breakfast so we just subbed for fruit. Anyway, it's a cute little place that has lunch and dinner and is very cozy because of its size. Check em out if you are in Houston. My second Questbar was an improvement from the last in taste. This on had a vanilla taste which was mild and seemed to fit the texture better that the Cinnamon Roll flavor did. Still the problem I am having with these is that they just taste unnatural and to protein-ish and it's likely that the taste comes from all the protein they shove in these things. This flavor is still not quite good enough to make me want to come back. Maybe I need fresher bars. I don't know.
I will say this in favor of them. They are very filling. Definitely good for a meal substitute. And they are so chewy they wear you out. Anyone else eat these? What are your thoughts We just arrived in Houston for two weeks of shows. If you know of places to eat downtown pass it along and I'll try to check it out.
In other news... Here's some photos from last week in San Antonio. Found these randomly in a Walgreens here in San Antonio. So yummy. A great holiday snack. If you love pumpkin these will hit the spot.
We arrived in a new city after a couple days off. It's 70 degrees here in Dec so that is what te fuss is about these days. If you know any good places to eat downtown let me know.
We had a short layoff and were sent back to our Point of Orgin (Visalia, Ca) so we got to participate is a few holiday things. |
