LC Foods Monterey Jack Cheese and Pumpkins Seeds Review

LC Foods has a bunch of different low carb options out there, but one of them is a low carb snack pack. Monterey Jack Cheese and Pumpkins seeds Snack is a mic of pumpkin seeds, almonds, and dried cheese that really works well together. I was worried at first that this would have a weird taste to its but surprisingly these flavors work. The cheese pieces help to add some nice taste to it and as a whole it offers a good crunch. Where normally a nut snack would mean having salty flavor this has a different taste to it that is closer to a savory taste. Fun and different.

Pili Nuts are a Smooth Snack for those Salt Cravings

I have never had a Pili Nut before today, but these were pretty awesome. I can honestly say that I have never tasted a nut like this that was so smooth creamy and flavorful. When you chew these nuts they break down very fast and become almost like a butter. Very tasty with a nice salty flavor thanks to the sea salt. I'm sure the Coconut oil plays a factor in its creaminess.

Great for a late night salt craving. My only bone to pick with these is who expensive they are to get. $5.99 is a bit much for a 1.8oz bag. I would love to eat them more often but it hardly fits my objective of keeping things cheap.

Nuti Light Hazelnut Spread Review

I could not have been more excited to try this stuff. I often times find myself envious of those posting pictures of their Nutella crepes or waffles. And I would have some myself if not for the abundance of sugar and carbs in it. This stuff is a great solution to that.

I decided to give it a try first by putting in on some fresh low carb almond pancakes. I applied a moderate amount and allowed it to soften as one does. This stuff is pretty good. It's not as sweet and flavorful as the main brand of Nutella, but it still very good. A great substitute for anyone how wants to have that hazelnut chocolate flavor without any of the guilt.

Later in the week I tried another approach with this that was also yummy. I had it with some Bryers Low Carb Ice Cream. A wonderful blend of creamy and rich to take your ice cream to a completely new place.

I suppose this will be one of those things I will continue to find new uses for which is one reason that I love this product so much. Any time I can get lots of use out of an item is a win in my book.

King Made Jerky Buffalo Style Review

Tried some new jerky recently. King Made Jerky Buffalo Style is the newest addition to the jerky I have had in a long list and this stuff is really yummy. At first I was thinking that it was just buffalo meat when I read the bag, but it's more just the style that it is prepared. This stuff is a really tasty jerky that isn't filled with too much sugar and carbs but still has a yummy sweet taste. It's also a softer jerky that is really easy and won't kill your jaw by chewing away.

I kept some of this jerky at my desk at work as a snack and this stuff is really tender and sweet.
I really enjoyed it.

Michael Angelo's Eggplant Parmesan Review

Walking down the frozen food section at Walmart I was searching for a quick meal to take home to the family one night. We were in a hurry to come up with something and hadn't really done much in terms of forethought into plans. As I walked past the frozen meals, most which had noodles, rice, or other carbs one jumped out at me. Michael Angelos Eggplant Parmesan sounded like it could be a nice substitute for a lasagna that we may have had in the past.

Now this certainly isn't something you want if you are still doing induction. No way sir. Still to many carbs, but if you are at a place when you can afford to have a few more carbs in your diet this may be a decent substitute.

We baked ours so that the eggplant would come out nice and crispy. Great flavor and great taste too. I did add some additional cheese on top because what was there wasn’t anything amazing. It took a little longer to cook in our oven, but when it was all done it was very good. The sauce tasted pretty good and was to artificial tasting. Everything seems legit on this. We will probably try it again on another night the neither my wife or I want to cook. Overall its good.

Jedi Junior High is on Netflix

Boy oh boy, what a journey it's been. Several years ago a friend of mine and I decided to use the medium of film to tell the story of a small theater company near us that was putting on  a musical version of Star Wars.  There were a lot of ups, and maybe even more downs on the journey and it has taken us a lot of steps to get here.

Often times as creative people and dreamers we spend all our time doing the dreaming and when it's time to actually move forward we get stalled out. This time we focus all our efforts on rolling the cameras and capturing the story before it was gone. Our slogan at the time became "shut-up and shoot". When it was all done that may have been the easiest part of the journey.

After it was filmed we had to turn to Kickstarter to help us get the rest of the way. With so many things to do in Post production we needed some assistance carrying us over the finish line. We so fortunate to have amazing people support our little project and see the potential in our story.

After months of edits, color correction, and sound mixing, the film was finished. Our new obstacle would become how best to share this story. Film Festivals, private screenings, and word of mouth all helped get the film out to people, but it was our hope that someone in the industry would see its potential so we could share it with a larger audience.

Well the time has come. Today Jedi Junior High is on Netflix streaming. The past several months it has been available to rent and purchase online, but now it's available to all globally to enjoy in the streaming service they already have. I could not be happier to know that the film is out there and ready for people to enjoy.

So pop some popcorn and gather the family around. And be introduced to Jedi Junior High..

Simple Supper Creole Fixens Review

Okay so I'm flipping through a food magazine the other day and all of a sudden there is an ad for a beef sausage. No idea who the company was. I was more interested in the picture of the food using their product. The had a big bowl of Jambalaya on the table which of course featured their product. All of a sudden it occurred to be that I could probably do some Cajun food pretty easily that was low carb. How did I forget this?

So my first thought was to go to the store and make my own from scratch version of a creole gumbo sort of dish. As my thought process went on it quickly evolved into something a lot less time consuming. Especially when I found the following.

Simple Supers Creole Fixens

Now first off, there is obviously some carbs in this, but it's not too bad. It had rice in it and it does have a bit more than I want to have in a meal. My work around for this was simply to double the meat. More meat to dilute the product. Honestly, it worked perfect. I added 1 pound of chicken and 1 pound of some andouille sausage to this stuff. Let it all cook together. It was way easy and pretty tasty. I did add a little more spice for myself, because on its own it was kind of tame. But still very good. I would absolutely do this again.

KZ Clean Eating Breakfast Cereal

I had real high hope for this KZ Clean Eating Breakfast Cereal. I really wanted it to fill in as a granola for me. And it could, if it had some sweetness and a bit more flavor. It's pretty bland. I like that it has a slight vanilla/cinnamon taste to it, but even then it was lacking a little. I sprinkled some Splenda sweetener on top of it with some unsweetened almond milk. That helped, but still didn’t fix it. The next bowl will hopefully be better. I am going to play around with what I can add to it to sweeting it up. I don’t think it should be overpowering, but for cereal or granola like this it should have some sweetness to it.

Still fun to have a bowl of cereal again, but I wonder if I could come up with my own recipe.

On that note, anyone have a low carb cereal/granola recipe they want to share?

I love chocolate. The ChocoPerfection Dark Chocolate bar with almonds is super yummy. It's low carb. It really hits all the right notes. Its will melt fast so be careful where you store it. I put mine in the fridge. Not too waxy. I liked it. Not my most favorite low carb chocolate bar, but certainly a winner. Its all natural so that's good too.

November Keto Krate Review

11/7/2016

If you read this blog you know that I am constantly on the look-out for Low Carb products that meet my lifestyle and help to make my life a bit easier. Saving time on cooking, and having a variety of snacks available help to make the diet a bit easier on myself so I don’t get bored with the same old things. So when I discovered that there was a new subscription service that sends you products that fit within the low carb lifestyle I was on board.

Keto Krate is a new subscription box that is available in the long list of to your door monthly box subscriptions that is specifically geared towards the Keto and low carb lifestyle. They guarantee that all items in the box will be less than 5 carbs per serving and that the value of the collected items products will always exceed the cost of the box.

My desire to find some new snacks that were low carb is really what made me decide to give it a try, that plus who doesn’t like a surprise now and then.

My review's for the individual products in this box will be cut short here. I will be doing more in-depth reviews on each product and share links to those reviews here as I complete them. Right now I just want to talk about this month's box and what I got as a whole.

Picture
So every box has a nice little welcome card that explains all the items you received and then usually has some promo codes in case you need more of something. I have already found myself using this for a snack I receive in my last box that no one carried in the stores near me. I had to have some more so having a little discount was great to give me the incentive to get some shipped to me.

Lots of great items this month and a couple that I was pretty excited to try out. So what was in my box this month?
This box was a win in my book because it offered a nice blend of items. Nuts and snacks to try, along with some chocolate, and even some cereal as a meal. I have no idea what Pilinuts are, but in most cases the nuts I have been sent in these krates have been a win. The jerky looks tasty, but I would love to have one that was not buffalo. It's not really my flavor of choice in jerky. The Hazelnut spread seems like a lot of fun. I look forward to trying it on a pancake. I think this box is a pretty nice collection of things to try. I'm excited to give them all a taste.
