![]() Its Monday after the Carbageddon holiday (a.k.a. Thanksgiving) and if you're anything like me you are probably experience two things. 1. A carb hangover from the cheats you wallowed in over the weekend. You're trying to get back on track today and you stomach is pissed because it got used to the sugar, the carbs, and getting stretched out twice its own size. So hungry. So very hungry. Need pie. 2. The demons inside you are fighting and you keep thinking to yourself, "Maybe I can start again tomorrow. What's one more day of cheats going to hurt. " I will say this, my mother in law made a pumpkin Pie that was low sugar and a bit healthier than traditional ones and I couldn't even taste the change. I was sent home with leftovers from the in-laws house. The carbs go to my wife as I swore to be good between now and the next holiday, but there is a good amount of turkey and ham left over for me to use in wonderful ways. Having good tasty meat to use for wraps and other things make me more inclined to pack lunches for myself. This is handy as we all need to save the pennies for the Christmas shopping. I would love to hear some of the low carb things that you folks are doing with your leftovers? Got any ideas for me? It's that time of year, Time to show how thankful we are by gorging ourselves on food until our belts burst. For us low carbers there will be at some point a potluck, buffet, or feast filled with everything we shouldn't want to eat. Its inevitable. At the first thanksgiving the Indians weren't showing us to grow Atkins bars, trust me. Be prepared to be surrounded by temptation. Some times with our different jobs and friends you may even have several parties in one week. Today was the first Thanksgiving of the season for me. My work had its annual potluck. They provide the turkey and potatoes and everyone brings everything else. Its a lot of fun to see what everyone brings, but it can also be torture. So what do we eat at this time of year? Here some items that have a very good chance of showing up that you can focus on. Turkey- Pretty much guaranteed. Its low/no carb and so you can eat as much as you like, the down side is you will be sleep drugged through the rest of the day. Salad- Its obvious, but it fills your plate. Broccoli Salad- Seems like a staple for a pot luck. Someone will usually make it, and depending on their recipe it can be pretty low carb. Try a little. If it not too sweet your probably OK. Fruit- If it the low sugar kind go for it. Green Beans Casserole- It's not the lowest in carbs, but its not the worst either. ![]() Beware the silent killer. Ham. Not all ham is bad. Matter of fact most is good and low in carbs, but if you happen to get Honeybaked Ham or one that has a sugar coat on it, they can be very carb heavy and contain a lot of sugars. So beware. They see innocent enough, but turkey may be much safer. ![]() Oh and of course, just avoid the dessert table. The only thing you will get from going near it is remorse. Anyone else have any good tips? First off, I fully acknowledge that I need to work on my picture taking abilities. I use the camera on my phone which is pretty ghetto, but its easy for me to use cause I always have it with me. Until I can convince my wife or family to get my a phone with a better camera (Iphone..wink wink.) You're stuck with low rez images. But that's OK, I wouldn't want to make you hungry like those jerks over at Foodgawker.com.
I enjoy seafood. My wife isn't a huge fan. If its fishy she is out. It can't taste like it was in the sea to get her interested. She has been out of town recently so it seemed like a good time for me to make some seafood. Tilapia- I throw some fish in a pan and fried it up with a little butter and some seasoned salt. Didn't need much to be tasty. Scallops- I never made scallops before. I decided to use some garlic and butter with this and then toss on some cheese to melt over it. Very yummy when it was done. Broccoli- It speaks for it self. Added cheese, because I had a little extra. This meal took me about 10 minutes. Super easy. This was my lunch today. I was trying something new.
I like Tuna Salad and I like Egg Salad. I've never had Chicken Salad so I thought I would give it a go. My local grocer makes some you can buy ready to eat. I liked it. Why wouldn't I? Its not to far off from the other salads and for me its another thing to add to the low carb arsenal. It's probably not the best thing to eat all that often since its still pretty high in calories, but when you eat low carb, what isn't. Anyway, some chicken salads have grapes in them. This didn't. I think that's probably good because it takes down the carbs. Vanilla Coke Zero and Jalapeno Smokehouse almonds on the side. |
