Flackers Part 2: Back with a Vengeance

The first time I tried Flackers it did not end well. I tried the Savory kind and there was such a weird taste to it that I literally couldn’t eat them. I had to throw them out. I thought that was it and that I would never cross paths with them again. Funny how things work out though.

In my last Keto Krate I received a bag of Flackers Rosemary flavored and instantly thought this is not going to end well. It's essentially a bunch of seeds bonded together into some flat "cracker". I surely wasn't going to change my mind on this. But I decided that it's only fair to give them a try since it’s a new flavor and I hate to waste food.

So this time around I decide to do things a little bit different. Let me start by my simple review. I tasted a Rosemary Flacker by itself to see what I thought of the new flavor. And while I don’t think it was amazing, the flavor works much better than the Savory did. It comes across closer to that of a Trisket with this taste. Still not great though. I would probably go to the Rawxies crunch before I do something like this by itself again.

Then I decided to get a little crazy. After all, crackers are best enjoyed with something on them. So I pulled out some yummy Spinach Artichoke dip I got from Costco (review coming soon) to put on these. Bam! We have a cracker folks. When you actually put something on them to help get some more taste its great and a great cracker substitute which not many exist. Still made up of small seeds, but its way more satisfactory this way. I actually feel like I was eating a guiltless version of crackers and dip. This is the way for them to be enjoyed without a doubt and they will probably become my new chip and dip substitute. Cause let's be honest, aren't chips really just a device used to get dip in your mouth. No one really cares that much about chips, but we always talk about how good a dip is.

Try them out with a nice dip and see what you think.

Sarayo Sauce Review

Ok, so simple mayo isn't really something worthy of doing a review in my opinion. We all know its low carb, but it really comes down to taste preference. Either you like mayo or you don't. That’s why you don’t see me posting any reviews about Mayo on here.

Sarayo, that’s another story. This is essentially a mayo/dipping sauce that’s got some taste and kick to it. I assume its mixed in with Siracha and that’s how it got its name. The take away here is heat. This has a nice abundance of hotness to it and really heats up whatever its used with. I tried it two ways recently. My wife and I made some chicken breasts for grilled chicken sandwiches and it seemed like a great fit. Lots of great flavor and really spiced it up nicely.

I also tried it with a hot dog. I normally don’t do mayo with a hot dog, but the heat is what drew me in. Very good. This is great for anyone looking to really spice up there sandwiches or meals and want to make sure it's got some kick to it. Very tastey. I recommend.

Chef's Cut Buffalo Style Chicken Jerky

Ok, I will be honest. The idea of chicken jerky weirds me out. I wasn’t looking forward to trying this so much. I think it's because in my mind I picture raw chicken. Then I get grossed out. I used to make jerky in my house. We used raw meats, marinated them, and dried em out. It never bothered me then. But the idea of raw chicken just doesn’t sit well with me.

I don’t really know if that is the same process used for chicken jerky and if there are some additional steps taken for food safety purposes. Maybe. Maybe not. So don’t let my fear stop you from trying this. Decide for yourself.

Chef Cut's Buffalo Chicken Jerky actually surprised me a bit. It really tastes just like dried out hot wings, Not much else than that. I was thinking it would have a strange smell to it, but not really. It's not as chewy as regular beef jerky would be but again a little bit closer to chicken you might cook a bit too long.

Its ok. I think if I want jerky I will stick to the usual beef variety. This was better than I expected, but still I'm not a big enough fan to come back.

GMO free Hickory Smoked Roam Sticks are Super Yummy

Today I tried my first Roam Stick. They are these wonderful tasty Hickory Smoked Pork sticks made from grass fed pork with no GMOs. While there may be a lot of companies that are going this route, I can only speak on this one. Lots of flavor and Smokey taste. The one I had had a little bacon taste to it too. Do check out their website. It’s a small couple of farmers who just wanted to make something same to eat with lots of flavor.

I recommend. Very Yummy.

Epic Bites Uncured Bacon Review

A friend of mine recently lost about 40 pounds doing a semi low carb diet. We had swapped products and recipe ideas and one of the things that he mentioned was that of Epic line of products and Bars. I had never heard of them until he had brought them up, but they are a company that makes all their bars with 100% grass fed protein. When I finally received a bag of Epic Bites Uncured Bacon snacks I was pretty excited to try it.

I am certain that of the jerky snacks Epic makes that the Uncured Bacon is probably the safest bet for those unadventurous eaters. It's essentially a pork bacon jerky with no added sugar, maple, or sweeteners. Just tasty bacon and sea salt.

It had great flavor and was actually very thick and filling. It didn’t taste as much like regular breakfast bacon as you would expect, probably because of the lack of sugar, but was a lot closer to that of a jerky. It had a nice Smokey taste to it that produced good flavor but wasn’t too salty like some jerky's can be. It also wasn’t as dry as some of the other meat snacks out there which was nice.

I actually would love to try some of the other flavors they make because although this was good, it wasn’t anything flavor wise that was outstanding or new. Epic has some interesting snacks available like Salmon bites and bison meat, which helps make them stand out from the crowd. Those sound a bit more exciting than this.

Oloves Natural Green Pitted Olives

When I was a kid my dad would pull out a jar of green olives, the kind with the red pimentos inside, and he and I would sit down with a fork and eat almost the whole jar. It's been years since I have had those same feeling towards olives. I really don’t like black olives at all, but green ones I can work with. I occasionally would have one or two on the holidays when they were sitting out at a meal, but nothing has made me seek them out like when I was a kid. It had been so long since I gave them any attention I had completely forgotten about them as a potential low carb snack.

In my July Keto Krate I was sent a small packet of Oloves which are essentially a company that makes olives a snack food by putting them in small individual packets. And why shouldn’t they be. Most kids love them. It just doesn’t make sense for an adult to carry a jar of olives with them each day. Well, Olives answers that issue with nice little on the go serving.

I can't say much for flavor because I don’t think I have a taste for olives like some people do. I know that they can be as just as subtle in their flavors as a glass of wine. To me, they tasted fine and had a nice lemony taste. They were not to bitter or acidic which was nice. Overall a nice snack. If I do decide that I want to have olive in my life again more regularly then I may just go get a jar, but these would be great for anyone that want to have them to take on the go.

I should also mention that my 2 year old ate half of the bag with me. As soon as she saw them she took the pouch from me and started to pound them down. So I guess the power of olives still reigns.

Everly Peach Mango Drink Mix

I don’t think I have reviewed a lot of drink options on this blog. Probably because there are so many options out there, and nothing beats that of a nice glass of water for your diet. That and coffee. However I was sent a package of Everly All Natural drink mix to try and I thought it would be worth sharing my thoughts.

I was sent the Everly Peach Mango mix to try. It contains no sugar and is sweetened with Stevia which is great. It has a bunch of B Vitamins in it so I guess it makes it good for you too in some respects. Simply take out the packet of powder and mix it with close to 17oz of cold water and "shake it like you mean it."

The taste was not as sweet as I hoped, but I think they focus more on it being a flavored water then a juice or punch replacement. It had a bit of a vitamin taste which I was able to get used to after a drink or two. It wasn’t quiet as peach flavored as I hoped but it's not bad. I just may have been expecting something sweeter. Overall its an ok drink. I wasn’t that impressed with it and I didn’t think I had to run to the store because this will revolutionize the way I drink my water. But that’s just me.

Despite what the taste is like, the purpose of this drink is the best part. Every time someone buys a box or Everly, they donate a portion of the proceeds to their non profit partner Colalife who in turn "uses those funds to provide packets of life-saving rehydration mixes (Oral Rehydration Salts) to mothers in rural Zambia. Those mothers use the rehydration mixes to treat their babies when they're sick with waterborne disease, saving them from death by dehydration."

That is pretty cool. I mean if you are going to drink something like this type of product, why not make a difference with it.

July Keto Krate Review

7/5/2016

If you read this blog you know that I am constantly on the look-out for Low Carb products that meet my lifestyle and help to make my life a bit easier. Saving time on cooking, and having a variety of snacks available help to make the diet a bit easier on myself so I don’t get bored with the same old things. So when I discovered that there was a new subscription service that sends you products that fit within the low carb lifestyle I was on board.

Keto Krate is a new subscription box that is available in the long list of to your door monthly box subscriptions that is specifically geared towards the Keto and low carb lifestyle. They guarantee that all items in the box will be less than 5 carbs per serving and that the value of the collected items products will always exceed the cost of the box.

My desire to find some new snacks that were low carb is really what made me decide to give it a try, that plus who doesn’t like a surprise now and then.

July Keto Krate -

My review's for the individual products in this box will be cut short here. I will be doing more in-depth reviews on each product and share links to those reviews here as I complete them. Right now I just want to talk about this month's box and what I got as a whole and my initial impressions.

So every box has a nice little welcome card that explains all the items you received and then usually has some promo codes in case you need more of something. I have already found myself using this for a snack I receive in my last box that no one carried in the stores near me. I had to have some more so having a little discount was great to give me the incentive to get some shipped to me.

Lots of great items this month and a couple that I was pretty excited to try out. So what was in my box this month?
