I tried an Atkins strawberry shake the other day. It was another one of those Atkins breakfast ones. Only one carbohydrate for the whole thing. I thought it was really good too. I like it because it reminded me of those Nestlé's Quik strawberry milks I had as a kid. Very creamy and sweet. Not thick like a normal shake would be, but it goes down smooth. They could almost call this flavor strawberries and cream because of it's creamy taste.
I'm getting into these shakes. They're delicious, quick, and easy. Great for a treat or to supplement your breakfast. I kind of drank it too fast and was sad when it was gone. This gives you an idea of the madness of the tour job I have. Here's a little something about me you didn't know. I was published in a book when I was in high school. It was collection of stories from boys in that young age all about growing up, friends, love, and all that stuff. Very Chicken soup for the Souly. Anyway, found the book during our move and thought I would share it. Enjoy.
Hopefully my writing has improved, but I don't thing so. The omelette that destroyed me. Ugh. They say 4 eggs. I say 17.
Before we left on tour my sister in law took us out for dinner at Wingstop to celebrate and got us some wings. I love wings as they are usually a great low carb option and full of flavor. Wingstop has a lot of options and although they are not breaded wings, they are fried and have more carbs then some skinless roasted wings may have. Still they smother them with flavor sauce which depending on your will power could be a good or bad thing. Still a better option that a taco. :)
Well we did it again. My wife and I had BBQ for lunch. This place known as Pecan Lodge was on Diners, Drives-ins and Dives so we knew it had to be good BBQ. We saw people on Yelp that recommended to show up early because once they sell out of something, it's gone. And the food goes quick. When we arrived there was already a line across the room. We decided it must be worth it if everyone else was doing it. We waited about 45 minutes in line and our anticipation grew with each step towards the front. We were concerned that they could run out of something we wanted and when we got to the front we heard they had run out of ribs. At first this saddened us, then we tasted our food and completely forgot all about ever wanting ribs. I got the combo plate with brisket and their homemade sausage with a side salad, since most other sides are a carb nightmare. Holy cow!!! It was incredible. The brisket was the tenderest smokiest BBQ I have ever had in my entire life. It was so juicy and smokey and tasted like what I can only imagine BBQ was ment to be like. The sausage was so full of flavor and authentic. You could tell this was BBQ that a lot of love and time went into. We were lucky we got there when we did cause they started running out of things fast with the people behind us. Definitely worth the wait. I would come here again if this was my town. My wife got one of the specialty items called the "hotmess" which is a baked sweet potato with barbacoa, chipotle sour cream, bacon, and chives. She loved it but I stayed away for obvious reasons.
Yesterday was July 11th or 7-11, so in honor of the special day 7-Eleven gave out free small slurpees. It used to be that those treats were off limits, but those days are over my low carb friends. Now 7-Eleven released a few select sugar free flavors in an effort to appeal to the more health conscience. It's great for a treat on a hot summer day or if you want an alternative to a sugary frappe that those coffee places serve. So go for it, drop in and celebrate the original frozen treat. I tried the Strawberry Banana and it was great!
I probably shouldn't even mention this place on here as you aren't gonna find many low carb options on the menu. But in an effort for full disclosure I will. I had dinner here yesterday. It was great. The brisket had great rich smoke rings in it and the women behind the counter corrected me that they do not serve sweet potatoes, they serve candied yams (which were outstanding.) You can tell its good BBQ cause there were several police officers eating inside and the staff behind the counter seemed like they came directly from a church picnic. Great food and they give you a lot. No food pictures on here for those of you trying to be good.
I know I need to work out today to make up for it, but it was delicious. We found a great burger place called Maple and Motor in Dallas using my TV Food Maps iPhone app. It's a little place that was on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. This place is great. Every burger is a whole 1/2 pound of beef. I went with the same thing that Guy Fieri got on the show. It's a bacon cheese burger with grilled jalepeano and onions. Tons of flavor and really juicy. They looked at me a little funny when I asked for no bun, but it was still great without. The peppers were super spicy and a bit hotter than I was expecting, but so much flavor. I don't know what they season the beef with, but it was great. I would make this a frequent stop if I lived in the area.
