At one point a guy sat down and started just playing some jazz piano. It was a great little spot that I really liked. I love jazz atmosphere so I might have been a little bias though.
We had been looking for a good brunch place for the whole time we were in Kansas City, MO. We were limited to the area near our hotel so our options were limited. It wasn't until the last day that we found what we were looking for. The Majestic is a small bar resturant that has live jazz at nights but on Sundays has a brunch menu. It was pretty killer too. I of course went low carb with a ham, sausage, and cheddar omelet. They normally come with potatoes but I subed those out for fruit.
My wife got some yummy eggs benedict which looked great and they serve complimentary fresh and warm spice muffins with the breakfast too. Things to avoid for us low carbers but great options for your friends that are coming out for brunch.

I found these near our Kansas City hotel and loves them. I ate way too many in one sitting. Low in carb of course.
Several weeks ago I had lunch at Wendy's and decided to try a salad there. Although I do have salads a bunch I am sometime leary of some fast food salads because the dressings and toppings can have some carbs that sneak in. I searched Wendy's menu for something that would feel safe and healthy and the Spicy Chicken Caesar Salad jumped out. Now I only went off the name and in most cases ceasar salads would be totally safe. Caesar dressing is low in carbs so I should be in the clear. I placed my order.
I should have thought about it. Wendys spicy chicken sandwich is breaded. That means assuming they use the same spicy chicken, it's probably going to be breaded on my salad. I guess I thought maybe the dressing was spicy. I was very wrong. Although its not a horrible salad and could be much worse as I avoided the croutons, it still has more carbs then most of us would want to consume. If you are maintaining, you'll probably be ok, but in induction you better watch out. If you order it just tell them you want grilled chicken. You will be fine. Carbs: 42 Dietary Fiber: 6 Net Carbs: 36 So for the past few weeks I have been with out a scale. This has been both a liberating and terrifing thing at the same time. I am forced to not rely on the numbers for encouragement to eat well, just trust myself. I was a little nervous the past few days because although I have been trying to eat well, on the road the schedual and available options don't always make it easy. I wanted to make sure that I was still in the right spot. I broke down and asked to borrow the scale of someone we are traveling with. I was very happy. My biggest fear was that I would put weight back on because of all the craziness, but I continue to maintain and am under my original goal. Guess I can trust myself more that I thought I could.
How often do you weigh yourself? Too much? Not enough? Today on the tour we had lunch at a little place we found off Yelp in Kansas City, MO. It's called the Genessee Royale Bistro. It's one of those cool little urban spots that makes really fresh salads, soups, and more. It's in an old converted gas station so that give you the idea of the type of place it was. Super cool atmosphere inside and great friendly staff. If we lived here we would definitely come back. In an attempt to stay low carb I got the cobb salad which was so delicious. Yes it has fried chicken on it but it was soooo good. Fresh, tasty, and completely homemade. I highly recommend it. All the toppings were wonderful. We also got the soup of the day which was a celery soup with goat cheese and cashews. Very different. It's was a really light soup with a nice creamy taste.
We may try to sneak back for breakfast. Having a three egg omelette and fruit for breakfast at the resturant at the bottem of our Kansas City Hotel. It was pretty overpriced, which was a bummer. But we just needed some breakfast this morning. Oh well.
You know where I haven't eaten in a long time? Subway. I was thinking about this the other day and I remembered that you can go there and get any of their sandwiches in salad form. It's just like ordering a sandwich because you go through the line and pick out all the ingredients you want for your salad and then make it right in front of you. And since Subway totes the famous five dollar foot long, and their salads are basically a sandwich with no bread, well they also have five dollar salads. And a salad for five bucks is actually not too bad of a price these days. I based my salad off of the Italian cold cut trio sandwich. Pepperoni, salami, prosciutto, and cheese. I added onion, tomatoes, and some chipotle ranch dressing. It was really good and I love the ability to make my salad custom.
For a long time I have avoided Subway because I felt like they are not as fresh as they always claim. I think I will reconsider my opinion of them now though. I won't say everything in my salad was amazingly fresh, but having full control over what I have in my salad and not getting weird looks from the staff as I create it is a huge plus. I for sure will go back to try some other salad combinations. Maybe not meatball though, that would be weird. One last stop from Dallas to share. We had burgers the other day from a great local spot called The Twisted Root. Its hard to say what one thing they are know for because they do so many different things out of the ordinary. A couple things stand out about this place to me...
I got a lamb burger lettuce wrapped with onions, goat cheese, bacon, and a jalepeano chutney. Very tasty.
Another Diner Drive-in, & Dives spot here in Dallas. We went to a great little mexican spot in a house. One of their go to dishes was the Pozole which is a Mexican chicken and tomatoe soup. Very yummy.
