I write about burgers a lot because you can find them almost anywhere and they're extremely easy to make low-carb. Boardwalk Burgers is a small chain and is a great place to eat low carb because they say right on the menu that they make any of their burgers lettuce wrapped. I went with the blue cheese bacon burger. It was great. A little messy but tasted wonderful. I added a little bit of barbecue sauce for taste as too.

![]() Wendy's, they don't cut corners. That is what they say anyway. At least that's their explanation for the square hamburger patties they serve. I do cut corners though. That is why I went there. Wendy's has had dollar menu for a long time and it was one of my favorite choices for cheap eats in the past. I had not been there in a while and hadn't tried any of the new items nor had I been there since I started my low carb life. I was interested in saving some money and seeing if they had anything I could eat so it seemed like a perfect time to check back in on the red headed mistress. I scanned the dollar menu and one item stuck out to me. I asked the staff what was on the Cheesy Cheddarburger. She said it was cheese and meat. Perfect. That is what I want only lettuce wrapped. After they sent it to me I realized it was a cheese slice and cheese sauce. Still a simple burger with little carbs. I cant say what the actual count is but it has got to be low. It certainly works if you are needing something quick with little adjusting to its ingredients. And it is cheesy so it tastes good too. I will do it again especially for 99 cents. Just add a side salad and you would be in business.
Yesterday was a big moving day for us. We're getting ready to hit the road for the tour finally and so we had a lot of packing to do. We moved everything we own into 10 x 10 storage space. Kind of weird when you can get everything you own in such a small space. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad thing. Anyway, because of all the moving the entire day was like one extremely large workout. I was sweating like crazy. I won't lie I had some carbs yesterday. I guess I figured I could do with them after the extreme lifting and it would not really bother me. Of course the problem as always is knowing my limits and I may or may have gone overboard. I've been doing a really good job staying where my goal weight is the last couple weeks so I don't really feel too bad about it. Tomorrow we officially hit the road to our first tour date in Riverside California. Back to eating normal tomorrow. Tonight we do food trucks.
My wife found this and got it for me as a joke. After all, I do love bacon. We tried it. Turns out the joke was on us. This stuff tastes weird. Not what you want it to taste like. And be warned, it will make your home and your microwave smell aweful. Like old stinky bacon. Not yummy fresh bacon. Don't do it.
Maybe there's a shortage on caramel these days. Maybe with the rise of gas prices, delivering caramel from one side of the country to the other has become more difficult. Maybe there's pirates out on the open highway and they are spending all their time highjacking caramel trucks! I'm just trying to figure out why in the world an Atkin's bar which advertises itself as being caramel filled has so little caramel in it. Maybe my expectations are too high for a low-carb Atkin's bar, but I just feel like if you're going to put caramel on the title I should be able to taste the caramel.
The double chocolate crunch part of the bar seems to live up to it's name, but the caramel is a little low. Again, it doesn't taste bad it just doesn't seem to live up to its name fully. In a perfect world, we would see a nice layer of caramel in this bar and it would have more of a creamy caramel consistency closer to that of maybe a Snickers bar. Of course if this was a perfect world you wouldn't need to watch your carb intake, you would be reading a blog on cinnamon rolls, and you'd just be eating a Snickers bar while doing it. Unfortunately that's not the case, so we have to live with what we got. It's a good bar, it's a fine double chocolate taste and crunchy. Very chocolate-y. But somewhere out there, there is a pirate eating my caramel. ![]() Time for a little friendly plug. Some friends of ours started to roast their own coffee beans. They do it all themselves in small batches. It's fresh, authentic, and they are doing everything to make sure the beans create some great coffee. We tried our first brew the other day and we loved it. Great taste and very smooth. I certainly know we live in times where you can get coffee anywhere, but if you are a fan of the little guy and things that are done with care and precision check these guys out. It's very good stuff. Verble Coffee Roasting Disclaimer: Atkins doesn't recommend drinking coffee or having a lot of caffeine on the low carb life style. I do, gets the juices flowing if you know what I mean. wink. Before my wife and I hit the road for our tour we had some issues to solve. The main one being what would we do with Rosie, our cat. After a lot of thinking we decided that the best option was to take her to stay with my wifes parents while we are gone. We took Monday and Tuesday to take the trip up to central California and drop her off. It was a nice litte trip. We played games and had a nice dinner to celebrate my wife getting her masters too. Got some time to read books and try to get the cat adjusted. It was not all stress free though. Our last day was a little hecktic. We were supposed to take a train back this morning but the train was an hour late. This normally would not have been an issue but we had a show to do tonight for Peter Pan. I had some things to do for my job and I wouldn't have gotten back in time. We ended up having to drive the way back. At one point we also thought we lost the cat. Of course she was just hiding but we all were feeling pretty upset. Then right at the crux of frustration she comes running out. Regardless of those things, it was a nice trip. Rosie is safe in her temporary home, has a lot of room to explore, and we are back in the OC. I'm glad too. I need to work out. :)
We of course eat a lot of nuts at our house because of the low carb count they have. Plus it a great way to get extra fiber. I am a sucker for bold flavors though, so when I saw that there were buffalo flavored nuts I went for them right away. . They are really good and a great snack for movies because of all the flavor they pack. I love em.
