Brooklyn Biltong Season Dried Beef is a pretty simple review to have to write. The beef is dried and is really lightly season. It's decent and super low carb as most other jerky's have too much added sugar. But no much about this would make me seek this out again.
The Amarok Spirit Fire Beef Sticks are decent. They aren't near as greasy as a Slim Jim. Not near as spicy as the name leads you to believe either. Decent, but these beef sticks really fit in the category of gas station quality. Not anything to rave about at all.
I came home the other day from a long day of work and was feeling a little bit stressed out from the pressures if my job. It was my turn to cook and I needed something to relax and sip on while I was working in the kitchen. I decided to grab the Zenify Zero can in my fridge. Primarily because it says "Stress Relief" in large bold letters .
At first I expected this to be more of an energy drink, but it's really the opposite. It is carbonated but has some ingredients which help to calm your body down. Closer to that of a tea. Its taste was actually pretty good and had a nice berry flavor. I would relate it to that’s of like a lightly sweetened carbonated fruit juice. Which I really did enjoy. I am not sure if it actually worked to reduce the stress, or if it was more of a placebo, but it was the right thing for the right time and I enjoyed it. I felt like my blood pressure was dropping and my mind was settling again. Could have also been related to being at home in a quiet house.
I probably won't intentionally seek out a drink like this down the road as I usually am fine with water and coffee. But, who knows, If I see this in a gas station on a hard day I may grab one again.
So I got to try a couple other snack cakes by the Nush Low Carb Snack Cakes company. I'm really liking these. They have great texture and really fill the need of a traditional snack cakes. Great flavor and awesome texture which is key in a cake snack in my opinion. This week I tried the lemon poppy seed and the cocoa cake.
Lemon Flavored Poppy Seed Cake
The lemon poppy seed cake was pretty good. Wasn't quite as lemony as I'd hoped for and was more of a subtle taste but you can definitely taste the poppy seeds. This one had a little bit more of a muffin feel and you could probably get away with eating it for breakfast which is nice. But again I wouldn't mind seeing just a little more lemon taste in it. It's good and has a nice sweetness to it.
The cocoa cake was really tasty. Had a nice moist texture to it and felt like a piece of chocolate bread that maybe my mother would've made. It's not a substitute for brownie by any means and again it's more in the cake category but still has great chocolate taste and for a snack really hits the spot. This one is probably my second favorite they make after the banana nut.
One of the things that really stands out to me about these cakes is the size a lot of products sometimes feel like maybe they're just a little bit too small and you have to practically two of them to fill the hole in your gut. This cake is a perfect size for a snack and when you're hungry will do the job. I'm definitely a fan of these guys today can't wait to see what else is company puts out down the road. And I'm probably going to order a box this month.
I love Chocolate Almonds. I have tried a few different companies versions and LC Foods Sugar Free Dark Chocolate Almonds really comes down to the chocolate they use and the ingredients in it. LC foods has some great products they sell and in most cases I have like what they have given. However these chocolate almonds were not my favorite. I think it’s the all-natural sweetener that makes the chocolate have a cool taste on my tongue. Not something I like for chocolate. It may be natural, but it's not a normal chocolate taste. It's closer to a mint cool fresh feeling that I would associate with gum. That’s really my biggest complaint. If chocolate almonds are your jam, I suggest getting the sugar free ones that Trader Joes sells. Far superior.
If you read this blog you know that I am constantly on the look-out for Low Carb products that meet my lifestyle and help to make my life a bit easier. Saving time on cooking, and having a variety of snacks available help to make the diet a bit easier on myself so I don’t get bored with the same old things. So when I discovered that there was a new subscription service that sends you products that fit within the low carb lifestyle I was on board.
Keto Krate is a new subscription box that is available in the long list of to your door monthly box subscriptions that is specifically geared towards the Keto and low carb lifestyle. They guarantee that all items in the box will be less than 5 carbs per serving and that the value of the collected items products will always exceed the cost of the box.
My desire to find some new snacks that were low carb is really what made me decide to give it a try, that plus who doesn’t like a surprise now and then.
My review's for the individual products in this box will be cut short here. I will be doing more in-depth reviews on each product and share links to those reviews here as I complete them. Right now I just want to talk about this month's box and what I got as a whole.
This month Keto Krate sent me some pretty cool stuff. I have to say first of all, that having the experience of opening up the box and seeing what's inside is still something I'll never get tired of. I always enjoy the experience of the surprise of seeing what is in the box each month even if the products are variations of ones they have sent before. It's fun to get mail!
This month's box had some fun different items. We got some dried beef from the Brooklyn Biltong company. We have a Nush snack cake which I recently fallen in love with this brand so that’s exciting. Some beef sticks to try and some different chocolates. I love sugar-free chocolate almonds and they're impossible to find in my area so I'm super excited that I got a little bag of these. They also sent me a fancy gourmet chocolate bar which should be fun to try. It's hazelnut so that should be a new different flavor. And there's a new peanut protein bar to try. I'm also really excited to try a new box of pistachios from the Gilded Nut company. Lastly they have a drink they included. It looks at first to be an energy drink, but they says its actually for relaxing and calming. I assume it's closer to that of a tea. Over all this is a pretty solid box. Fair amount of snacks. Nothing years it's probably going to sustain for a long time but everything here is going to last. Can't wait to try them.
The Nush company reached out to me to see if I would be interested in trying their new line of Nush Low Carb Snack Cakes. I'm always looking out for new products that will help the low carb diet and keep me focused on my low carb life style. Plus Snack cakes? Why wouldn’t I want to try it. I grew up eating Little Debbie Snack cakes, which may have contributed to my weight gain earlier in life. So having an option that would fill that void without the guilt sounds awesome. They have four different flavors of cakes currently. I tried two of them to start.
Nush Carrot Spice Cake
This cake was moist and sweet, but didn’t have the spice I was hoping for. A little bland for a carrot cake. It has good taste, but usually for a carrot or spice cake I expect to have a bit more on the spice side. I would love it if they amped it up a little more. The texture is great and this cake even has some nuts in it like traditional carrot cake. I liked that aspect. My daughter did not.
Nush Banana Nut Cake
I really liked this cake. Great banana taste and flavor. Like a low carb Banana bread or muffin. Very tasty and sweet with a nice moist element to it which felt very fresh. I would totally eat this again. Very yummy. I miss banana bread and it’s a great substitute. I would love to put this in the microwave for a quick few seconds to warm it up next time with a little butter on top. Yum
