When we arrived I checked out the menu and low and behold they have a nice little spot where they explain that they will make any burger as a salad. I went with Bobby's Blue Cheese Burger. Seemed like it would be the best fit for a salad with a vinaigrette on it. Its Bacon, Blue Cheese, some fancy cheese I can't remember, and Tomatoes on a fresh beef patty. Pretty good. Nothing I couldn't do at home, but tasty none the less. And it's nice to have one more place that knows how to do low carb options for us.
While we were in Cincinnati we took a hotel shuttle to a local casino because we heard a new burger place had just opened up. Bobby's Burger Palace is a burger place started by the famous grill-master himself, Bobby Flay. When we heard that news we had to seek it out. The cool thing is that its pretty inexpensive for a fancy burger place. I was expecting a lot higher prices, but its similar to a lot of other fancy burger joint these days. Burgers and fries are the choices here and they are known for their "Crunch Burger" which is essentially potato chips on a burger.

Russell Stover just launched a new line of bars that are sugar free and good for snacking. My mom turned me onto these. They are super delicious. Like candy. Which makes sense, since Russell Stover is in that business.
The Chocolate Delight Granola is amazingly good. It's very chocolaty and is full of flavor. I wouldn't really recommend this as a breakfast bar, but it works as a snack really well. It's almost closer to a dessert or candy bar thats how chocolate and sweet it is. Savor it cause it's going to go quick. They are small, but because of its sweet contents you don't need very much. A little goes a long way. I am looking forward to trying more of these. I get it. I understand that buffets aren't quiet the classy joints they used to be. When I was a kid having the freedom to make up my own plate was awesome. All the dessert you want, Um yes please. Its probably the same reason I got chubby. The thing about buffet chains is that it seems like many of them have gone down hill as time has gone on. The food is not as fresh, the choice are lame, and the atmosphere is dirty. It was a miracle I could get my wife to even go in one with me. I will say this however, and she might not admit this but I will. We were impressed with Golden Corrall.
This Golden Corral seemed to take a different approach in one way. I noticed that though they did have a lot of options for me, they didn't put as much of each food item out as other places do. This helps the food stay fresh. They are constantly preparing more and getting fresh stuff out. Yes, I am sure most of it is frozen in the back, but the burgers and the streak I had seemed very fresh and not as processed as other buffets. A little more authentic. They even had chef preparing some of it right in front of you. The salad bar was huge, lots of choices to keep it low carb, and the hot buffet had plenty of meats to choose from as well. Some of the items will have more carbs then others and you just have to be smart when you go here. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy yourself and the freedom of making a meal that is just for you. I think if I had one piece of advice to give buffet places, it would be to invest in prettier plates. The plastic orange and blue plates make me feel like I am in a hospital. How about those fancy plates that are square. Maybe even breakable ones. Yeah, that could be dangerous, but food taste better with a little danger. Then again having a heart attack is dangerous too, and this place has a risk of doing that also. While traveling the southern states it was only a matter of time before my wife and I found ourselves in that one of a kind eatery, Cracker Barrell. These places are known for their hearty homestyle cooking with cute cozy interiors, not to mention the attached general store that sells all sorts of old timey trinkets. Fun Fact, Cracker Barrell is the number one restraurant of choice for travelers between the ages of 50-70. It even beats out Dennys.
This is the place where corn bread, biscuits and gravy, and other fried foods are usually going to win on the menu. So you can guess that I was pretty surprised when I saw that they had a special section dedicated to low carb eats at breakfast. Granted breakfast is probably the easiest meal of the day to do low carb, its still nice to see a place take it into consideration. I got the Double Meat Breakfast cause I like meat and eggs. Seemed like a safe choice. It is a lot of food and I was very satisfied.
I feel like I should mention a bit of a controversy on the internet about this low carb breakfast. Cracker Barrel advertises that these meals come with "Low Carb Bread". My waitress even presented it to me that way. Many people have done the research and have found that its really not that low carb or anything different from their wheat bread. That being said, if you you are early on in your low carb life, go without. It's not gonna hurt you to leave it on the side. It's extra carbs that could be used somewhere else in the day. Have some fresh fruit instead. And if you do have a slice, well it's certainly a better choice than a biscuit. Also, the bacon here is awesome. Really awesome. Like, get more. |
