Be carefull what fruits you are taking in though. They put some of the high sugar ones in their.  Last time we where there I got the Anahiem Scramble. Its pretty good. You can have them make it with egg whites too if you like.

We have been in Boston this week and got to do a lot of exploring. So great to be in this town even after the recent tragedy. its cool to see how people in a city rallies around each other. Lots of cool history and sites we took in. Got to see Paul Revere's House and the old north church. Also the site of the Boston Massacre and where the original Boston Tea Party Started. Lots of fun.

Exploring the park with the wife. Lots of cool statues and great sites.

We walked the Freedom Trail which has a ton of cool things to see and lots of history.

I think my favorite was the old graveyards that had a bunch of famous folk. This is Paul Reveres grave. Funny that they didn't say much about him on the stone.

A Celebratory Breakfast at Dunkin'

As many of you readers may know, my wife and I have been on a bit of a travel journey. For the past year we have been traveling with the  Broadway Tour of Cathy Rigby is Peter Pan. We have been fortunate enough to get to go to different cities across america, see the sites, taste the food, and all while being a part of an amazing show that brings joy to some many different people. Unfortunately that journey is about to end. Our last week is here in the wonderful city of Boston and this weekend is our last four shows. After that we start a new chapter in our lives. It's going to be interesting and an adventure that's for sure.

Because of the show coming to and end we went and treated ourselves to a little bit of carbs this morning. We would see donuts all over the country, but using all my will power, would often not participate in their tasty trouble. This morning in honor of our final weekend we went and got some coffee and had some donuts and it was great.

I share this with you because I think that there is two parts to eating well and healthy. One is to make good choices and to be aware of what you are putting in your body and it's effects on you, but the other is to be able to enjoy food they way we should. That doesn't mean over eating, or going crazy with the carbs every other day, it means taking the time to say, "I am doing pretty good and I can enjoy myself today." This is a lesson I am constantly relearning at this phase in my diet. I often times have such a fear that after losing all my weight that I will fall off the wagon and gain it all back that I forget how far I have come. Its important to know that We are in control of what we eat.

All that to say, yeah, I had some carbs today, and I earned them. Tomorrow, we keep moving forward.

This weeks story is by Louisa M.
I was pretty excited when I saw that a Menchie's frozen yogurt shop was opening in my neck of the woods. I had never heard of the franchise before and I was excited to try it out since I read they have a variety of no sugar added AND low carb yogurt flavors. I asked the owner about their Atkins-friendly options (and I thanked him for offering a healthy alternative!), and he said each store features a different flavor of low carb and no sugar added yogurt. Since the yogurt is made at the store, the flavors will vary at different shops. At our location, the first two machines are the low carb varieties and they change a couple of times a week.

There are lots of yummy toppings you can add to your yogurt, including a few low-carb options: fresh strawberries, peanuts, almonds, coconut flakes, fresh bluberries, raspberries, and the best -- sugar free hot fudge! Of course you have to have amazing willpower to not load up with the sugar-laden toppings like cookie dough, Oreo crumbles, gummi bears, whipped cream etc., but it's easy to stick to a low carb eating plan if you are careful.

I opted for a swirl of the low carb and the no sugar added flavors the night I was there. The low carb flavor was toasted almond and the no sugar added flavor was mud pie. You can do either flavor individually or swirl them together. On other visits, the low carb flavors I've had were New York Cheesecake, Vanilla Malt and Capuccino. I did not try any of the other no sugar added flavors. I topped my yogurt with almonds and strawberries. My husband went a little overboard and loaded his with strawberries and the sugar free hot fudge.

You fix your own cup of yogurt so you can get as much or as little as you want. You pay by the ounce. This isn't a treat that you shoud go crazy with but it's a nice sweet treat for those of us who follow a low carb lifestyle. I am a big fan of Menchie's and I wanted to share it with other lowcarbers out there.

A Weekend in Detroit

We are only here for a weekend in Detroit so we may not get a chance to see a lot. Our theater is across from where the Tigers lose and it's beautiful inside. This may be my favorite theater we have been to all tour. Super cool.

Anyway, just wanted to drop a note so you know where I am. Off to get some breakfast that I may post about later.

Ankin's Review: New Cinnamon Bun Bar

4/20/2013

If you have followed this blog for a while you may have heard me mention my love for cinnamon rolls. My wife laughs at me because of how much I allow these delectable treats to haunt me. I even have a internal Cinnabon radar in shopping malls and airports. It's kind of beyond crazy. So I think I know what I'm talking about here.

Anyway, Atkin's has had a Cinnamon Bun Bar in the past in their "Daybreak" line but they mixed up their recipe and have a new one in their "Meal" line of bars. I think its super yummy. Again I am biased. I love the taste of sweet and cinnamon together so this it right up my ally.  It is soft and chewy like other granola bars yet not too gritty.  I think its a great bar to have for breakfast since it tastes more like a breakfast and not like a candy bar like some of the other bars they have do. These are going to be a new staple in my house.

Currently Walmart has them on their shelves... Until I come eat them all. :)

Low Carb Breakfast at FirstWatch

Cincinnati, OH my wife took me to a nice little breakfast place near our hotel that she had been to before. FirstWatch is a chain, but regardless they do a pretty good job of creating the fresh local brunch cafe feel. Their coffee is fresh and flavorful and they have plenty of healthy choices all over the menu. I liked this place because when you get an omelette (I got the southwest w/Chorizo of course) you get the option of having pototoes or fresh greens. They will bring you a nice side salad instead of potatoes. Thats great and so simple for a business to do and give us the option. Its not fresh fruit, but its nice to have a little greens to start the day.

My wife and I did share a bowl of fresh fruit with our meal. She at the carby ones like apples and bananas, and I ate the melon. Teamwork! Anyway another brunch place on our journey.
