Heres a little video I threw together on my last trip to Chipotle. Hoping to create some more of these. Let me know what you guys think, and feel free to share. :)

I just can't get enough BBQ. I could eat it all day. Smoked meats call out to me. Yeah some BBQ places just slather on the the sauce and you get a real sugary mess on your hands. But if its done right it can be good flavor and not a ton of guilt.
The Back Alley BBQ in Tulsa has a simple menu but some great options are in it. I got myself the pulled pork because thats always a favorite in our house and we love getting a pile of meat served to us on a plate. For sides I when with a BLT salad and I decided to splurge a little a try the award winning baked beans here. Very filling meal. Don't eat the toast obviously. I used the hotter BBQ sauce on my meat because it was less sweet and therefore had less sugar in it. And the beans were incredible, but they were very sweet so I can promise you that you should probably avoid them if you go here because the carb count is probably high. Still, this BBQ is a good place to get some yummy meats and veggies. I should also mention that this place serves Candied Bacon on their appetizer menu. It's basically bacon and brown sugar. It has carbs in it and should be avoided at all cost. And when you are done eating it, don't tell anyone you did. Thats what I do. Seriously though. Avoid it. Its Bacon, but it will kill you double. We must have passed like twenty of these places while walking around Chicago. Potbelly is a sandwich shop, and although they don't offer much in low carb sandwiches they have a great salad that's low carb and easy to order
The farmhouse salad has the following: All-natural grilled chicken, hard-boiled egg, bacon, blue cheese, tomatoes, red onion, cucumbers Farmhouse shmarmhouse! I call it a Cobb salad. Still easy and quick. We like that. Carbs: 12 Fiber: 5 Net Carbs: 8 Some people out there have told me that they have had a hard time finding low carb tortillas at stores in their area. Well, the good news is, Target's food brand of Market Pantry now has low carb tortillas. And you can find Target almost anywhere in this country. They aren't too bad either. At 6g a tortilla they are pretty good and big too. They aren't the most natural of low carb tortillas, but its the only choice you have at a store like Target. The great thing is, one tortilla is definitely big enough for a wrap or burrito. Look for them near the rest of there tortillas and mexican foods.
With Easter coming up right around the corner you can be sure that stores are already rolling out the decorations, cards, and candy in hopes of making some extra money off of the holiday. I love Easter candy. I have alway been a sucker for the Cadbury cream and carmel eggs, not to mention the occasional chocolate bunny has lost its life for me once or twice.
Easter baskets were always a fun thing to wake up to and a nice way to celebrate a pretty important holiday. For me since the change to low carb happened that meant that usually what ended up in my basket was Atkins bars and beef jerky. Well, have no fear fellow sweet-toothers, Russel Stovers once again saves the day with their sugar free line of Easter candies. Yes, you probably are going to pay a little more since it says Easter on the bag, but it will be a nice thing to put in the basket of that special person you care about that is watching the carbs. Keep in mind, just cause its sugar free doesn't mean you should go to town on these. They are meant to be treats and enjoyed in little bits at a time. And if you are in the Induction phase, well you may want to hold off all together. Too much sugar free can be a bad thing. Still nice to have these as an option though. Finally a Quest bar I thought was pretty good. I guess peanut butter flavoring is much easier to make low carb than others because low carb bars usually go this route. A little chocolate and peanut butter can fill the cravings. I still am not crazy about the strong heavy protein taste but you can't have it all. I guess that it may be a consistency thing for me too with these bars. Quest bars are very chewy and if they have sat on the shelf for a while your jaw may get a workout trying to chew through them. Still, if there is a flavor I like of these to date, this is the one.
Note: The following review may not ever pertain to you. Odds are, you wont ever go to Fargo. Why would you. Uh...I dunno, maybe because its a cute little town surround by great schools, with a nice little arts community, where people are friendly, hard working, and still greet each other with smiles, not to mention considered one of the safest cities in America. Still, you won't probably go, because to you, its just...cold. But if you do...
While visiting my family over a week we had off; my wife, mother, and I decided to go have dinner and see some local theater. We decided to hit a local spot downtown for dinner so we went to The Old Broadway which is a restaurant that has been there for years. Good food, good atmosphere, and they even brew their own beer. Something cool happened when we sat down for dinner. We opened our menus and right there in front of us was a whole section of meals prepared for those who like to eat low carb. They even tell you what the carb count is on each dish. How cool is that! I got a Cobb salad cause I was in the mood for a one and Cobb is my favorite, but my mom actually got the low carb Smothered Salmon and she really liked it. Lots of flavor and she didn't have to alter a thing. It's definaitly a place I will remember to check out again so I can try something off the menu myself. Anyway, if you happen to be in Fargo...cough fatchance cough...then check it out. It's my hope that over the next few months I will be incorporating some cool video into this blog. Just posted a new welcome video to start. So if you know someone that is interested in starting a low carb lifestyle this might be a nice way to introduce them to this site. Feel free to pass it along. While we where in Chicago we were invited south to a little place where my friend works to get some lunch. It's called Polo Nuts and Candy because it use to be a candy shop a long time ago and it still has that old drug store feel inside. It's a really cute place and is actually part of a bed and breakfast too.
While we were there I got a cup of yummy soup and the spinach salad with hot bacon vinigerette. I added some steak to it for a little more protein. It was really yummy and was very freshly prepared. The soup I got was butternut squash and it was super good. Like the kind of good where you question if its good for you at all. That good.
Anyway, we hear that their brunch is spectacular. If you want a cute little place to eat where the food is fresh check em out. And they are only a few blocks away from the White Sox stadium. So catch a game while you are at it. Not that anyone cares about the White Sox. If you go, ask for Adam. He is a buddy of mine and he will treat ya real special. |
