I was surfing the web this morning and checking out some of the other blogs out there and found a great one that I thought I might share. It's called Peace, Love, and Low Carb. She has some great photos of some wonderfully delicious foods she's made. Be sure to check her out!
My sister in-law Nicole is doing Atkins and has been eating Low carb for a little while now. We swap recipes and ideas on occasion and its been fun to see a female perspective on the diet every now and then. She sent me a great recipe she found on-line for low carb Focaccia Bread. It's pretty awesome. It's incredibly easy to make and definitely fills a great hole in you if you are craving bread. I whipped up a batch in just a few minutes. Oh and its like a carb per slice. Here's a link to the original recipe and some shots I took of the process for me.
Low Carb Focaccia-Style Flax Bread
It tastes pretty good which was the great thing. Not like it's a piece of flavorless cardboard like some low carb breads are. Pretty Moist and soft. I had a slice that night with some peanut butter and today made myself a sandwich for lunch . Check it out.
Last night after my show I went out with my cast mates to a pizza place we have in the area called BJ's pizza. It's a great brewery that has awesome pizza, appetizers, burgers, and drinks. Of course most of the things i just mentioned a low carber cant eat. They do however have some awesome lettuce wraps that I had off the appetizer menu. Chicken, mushroom, and other tasty things. Seems like Lettuce wraps have been coming up a lot lately for me.
Dearest Burger King
I humbly implore you to help your people. We are in a war with a Carb Dragon on the hillside. It is ravaging our townspeople and burning their homes. We ask you to send a lettuce wrapped beef patty to fend off this creature. Please, we can not fight alone.

Someone asked me if I ever eat at Burger King. I used to a lot. Truth is if you want a traditional burger between two pieces of bread they do a pretty good job. The Whopper is a decent burger and you get pretty good bang for your buck there. Now days however on a low carb diet I don't really visit there too often. There's a big reason for that really. Burger King uses shredded lettuce.
The other day I stopped by because my wife found a couple "Buy One Whopper Get one Free" coupons. Well I love a deal so I decided to pick up some food. To be honest two whoppers and a drink for $6 bucks is not too bad. Seems like a lot of food actually. I was excited. And when I rolled through the drive of Burger King and ordered I had no trouble asking for the burgers "Low Carb" style. They made the note on the order screen and I drove up. All of this seemed simple enough. I was halfway to a great fast food low carb experience.
The problem arrived when I got back with my food. I open up the bag to see my meal. Essentially its two whoppers on a plate and no bun. Its a burger salad. I guess maybe I've been a little spoiled eating at some other places that know how to wrap a burger or at least give me some bigger lettuce leaves so I can pick it up. Don't get me wrong, it tasted fine. I knife and forked it the whole way and it tasted just like a lettuce wrapped burger would. I really can't complain that much, but there is just something about being able to eat a burger with your hands that completes the fast food experience. When you have to use a knife and fork and then eat it like a salad I almost feel like I am missing out on something. It seems like BK wants to accommodate me but if I had to guess I would gather that the issue comes from the fact that they use pre-ripped lettuce on their burgers. Since their lettuce is torn already they just cant wrap it. But why not keep a couple heads of lettuce around. I cant be the only one wanting to have it lettuce wrapped right?
Again, what I ate wasn't bad, it just felt incomplete. It was a meal that reminded me that I don't eat like most people and I dont want to be reminded of the difference in my diet. If that's the experience I walk away with, then I just prefer to go back to a place that understands burgers should be eaten with your hands regardless of your eating requirements. After all shouldnt you be able to "have it your way"
In regards to carb count, I cant be entirely sure. It cant be too much The only real thing is the ketchup the put on the burger. Tomatoes have fiber so Im guess in it probably looks like this for one whopper salad....
