Habanero BBQ Blue Diamond Almonds

Welcome to flavor-town. Population = Me

Almonds are a great snack for us on the go Atkins folk. They offer three things that are essential to any low carb diet.
1. Very Low in carb (um, duh)
2. Great source of fiber. (So you can get those "movements" you have been waiting so patiently for.)
3. Protein (There is nothing funny about protein. Sorry)

With that in mind next time you are going to reach for a snack and you are looking for something that has a little bit more flavor I suggest going with Blue Diamonds line of BOLD favors. Almonds with a bit more taste to them that are a perfect substitute for those flavored potote chips you have been missing so much.

My personal favorite flavor is Habanero BBQ. A little spicy but not enough to burn your mouth off the BBQ flavor also has a nice light sweetness to it.  If the spice seems like its to much for you you can try one of the less spicy flavors that Blue Diamond offers like Carolina BBQ, or my other favorite Jalapeno Smokehouse. A great treat to watch the big game with or have during a rousing game of poker with the boys.

These are seriously tasty, full of flavor, and are my favorite nuts I have tried to date. Just remember if you are doing the induction process of atkins its better to stay away from nuts and fruit for the first couple weeks.

Carls Jr.'s Low Carb Big Carl Burger

"Don't bother me...I'm eating." That's kinda rude if you ask me. Personally I think it's about time Carls Jr. starts making up for their snarky ways by helping out the customer a bit.

Well they've listened. Not everyone knows this, but Carls has introduced an alternative options section to their menu. It includes, gluten sensitive, vegi, and of course low carb options. And even though they don't have it on the menu, you can actually order any of their food this way. If you say "Low carb it" or simply ask for any sandwich lettuce wrapped they will ditch the bun and you are in business.

With this in mind I decided I would go for Carls Jr.'s version of the Big Mac or what they call the Big Carl. Two pattys of beef, two slices of cheese, special sauce (the secret is love), and its all wrapped up in some lettuce. Its basically that, is a simple burger. Your not going to get much carbs with this one since its mostly meat and lettuce. The ones you do get are coming from that special sauce, so you can always have them go light on it if you need to.

What Carls get right with this burger is how much lettuce they use when they wrap their burgers. They really wrap it. I actually find myself pulling off half the lettuce cause it is so much. This is great in comparison to some places that simply put a small leafy green on top of the patty when you ask for the low carb choice. When its finnished I feel full and satsifed. And its also nice to not have to cut my burger with a knife and fork. Well done Carls.

McDonald's Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

Oh the Caesar Salad. Often thought as an European creation, it was originally created by an Italian born Mexican in San Diego California. San Diego, California? Sounds like a salad that might be a little confused. Can't say I haven't been confused eating it myself sometimes. Why is it so simple and yet still so good?

The ingredient's for a Caesar salad are pretty cut and dry. Lettuce, Parmesan cheese, croutons, salad dressing, and if you are lucky they may throw on some grilled chicken into the mix. McDonalds doesn't really stray to far from this idea. After all if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I recommend  staying away from the croutons. Sure they don't add up to that many carbs in this meal, but are they really that essential to this salad? Save yourself the carbs for later when you really need them. Also, go light on the Newman's own dressing, a little dressing goes a long way.

the McDonalds Grilled Chicken Caesar salad is not a great salad, but its not a bad one either. Its a Caesar that doesnt taste like fish so I consider it a winner.
